Project Location: A Gathering Place of Urban Resources
The project is located on the south side of the Twin Mountains in Shanghai World Expo Cultural Park, just separated from the park by a road. It occupies a rare plot of land in Shanghai that uniquely integrates multiple resources such as the river, park, pavilions, and hills. Within a 2-kilometer radius of the project, urban and international-level supporting resources are scattered everywhere, and the ecological landscape and bustling business districts complement each other. The rail transit network extends in all directions, surrounded by Line 7, Line 8, Line 13 and the under-construction Line 19. It is only 300 meters away from Changqing Road Station of Metro Line 7/13, providing convenient access to the whole city.
Small Plot Design: Challenges and Breakthroughs
The project plot is in an "L" shape and is narrow and small. The irregular shape poses a severe challenge to the design. With the concept of "integration" at the core, the designer has transformed the long and narrow area on the east side into community supporting facilities, integrating functions such as community medical services, senior citizen activity rooms, cultural activity rooms, convenience stores, and living service points. It serves not only as the entrance to the community but also extends into the urban context, forming an internet-famous architectural landmark. Through details such as pavement, plants, and landscape walls, a hotel-style garden landscape is created to enhance the community atmosphere.
Homecoming Experience: Double Sense of Ritual and Renewal of the Urban Interface
Due to the limited area of the plot, the designer has created an entrance with a double sense of ritual by extending the homecoming space outward, allowing the owners' emotions to naturally relax on their way home. This design not only changes the mood of the owners when they return home but also becomes a spiritual landmark of the block, rejuvenating the urban interface of the surrounding streets.
