The charming aspect of a city lies not only in the number of new things it creates, but also in how it preserves time and allows the past to continue participating in the present. Chengdu has a perfect understanding of this balance. From the meticulous refinement of ancient Sichuan craftsmanship to the ease and composure in tea settings, banquets, and daily interactions, time here not only corresponds to efficiency, but also becomes a form of skill, aesthetics, and warm bonds between people.
This also constitutes a hidden resonance between Chengdu and Paris. One is characterized by its laid-back attitude and inclusiveness, while the other constantly updates modernity in the depths of history; seemingly very different in nature, yet both believe that things that can withstand time do not need to rely on temporary novelty. Through a long process of gestation, they form their own essence, ultimately becoming the cultural expression of a city and the self-evident taste of the people living there.
Based on this understanding, the design drew inspiration from the spirit of “Time Brewing Art” at the Paris White Horse Estate and incorporated the local context of Chengdu into a contemporary setting. The design bypassed the juxtaposition of symbols and organized the sales office and clubhouse around art, social interaction, and physical and mental experiences: from the etiquette upon arrival to conversations, exhibitions, feasts, and then to swimming, exercise, and meditation, creating a spiritual space where one can perceive the city's essence and anticipate future life.
Passing through the courtyard, a bamboo-jointed art installation hanging from the eaves comes into view. Its layered structure is inspired by Chengdu's bamboo culture, but avoids concrete depiction, instead using metal, transparent materials, and precise construction to recreate the upright and open nature of bamboo. Day and night, light flows through it, and the installation becomes a growing urban poem, existing within the clear order of modern architecture while retaining the gentle and resilient temperament of Sichuan culture. The ritual of return unfolds step by step, gradually completing the emotional transition.
