This project highlights TOSTEM, a century-old Japanese aluminum window brand, utilizing a "window-as-wall" design strategy to enhance the relationship between product, environment, and brand values. By incorporating large-span folding doors, the design seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces. The combination of rugged natural stone and warm wood finishes creates a striking contrast, emphasizing the minimalist craftsmanship inherent in Japanese precision engineering. The design effectively transforms exhibits into partitions and facades, allowing visitors to navigate through the space while experiencing a transparent atmosphere, tactile interactions, and dynamic light patterns generated by high-quality aluminum windows. This design approach communicates the brand’s century-long dedication to craftsmanship, underscoring the significance of spatial quality.

The design concept of "erasing boundaries" redefines windows as connections between indoor and outdoor spaces. Utilizing TOSTEM's ultra-slim frames and expansive glass panels, the design offers unobstructed views and facilitates airflow, fostering an open and transparent environment. Rugged natural stone is paired with precision-engineered aluminum, merging the stone's raw texture with the refined aesthetics of the window frames. This harmonious blend emphasizes the subtlety of the aluminum while effectively integrating the architectural context of nature alongside man-made elements.

The team employs negative space to harness natural light as the focal point of the interior. In the morning, sunlight streams in, gradually transforming into a soft, diffused illumination throughout the day. It creates an exhibition area that functions like a vessel for shifting light and shadow, showcasing the exceptional light-filtering and sculpting capabilities of high-quality window designs. The design moves away from fixed circulation paths, utilizing folding doors for flexible spatial transitions. Further, linear ceiling channels and track lighting enhance the visual connection to the outdoors, fostering a serene and fluid atmosphere. The design team focused on preserving the rugged texture of stone veneer while seamlessly integrating it with the warm, smooth characteristics of walnut wood veneer. This juxtaposition against the precise and sleek design of aluminum windows establishes a harmonious tension between intricate detail and the natural environment within the space.
