Located in Chengdu International Finance Square (IFS) and adjacent to Taikoo Li commercial zone, the Langbo Chengdu is the fifth hotel under The Unbound Collection by Hyatt in Greater China, which covers an area of 35,677 m2. The design team digs deep into these two brands’ features to interpret the “modest luxury” and redefine the Chinese traveling lifestyle.
These two brands are combined to interpret both Chinese and Western cultures. The project is a combination between the emerging Langbo and the classic The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. The top priority of the design is to artfully integrate these two brands and create a brand-new city landmark. The Langbo upholds the concept of “gentleness, modesty and dignity”, whereas The Unbound Collection by Hyatt is designed to deliver authentic experiences and distinctive lifestyle. With “jade” as the clue, the design incorporates the most representative local elements such as Sichuan Opera, Tea Culture, and Chess Playing. The design lends the space the qualities of gentleness, modesty and reservation by using pitch black, bright white and pinkish golden as the base colors and combining the design philosophy of traditional three-courtyard residences.
The design blends tradition with luxury. The project is located in Chengdu IFS, which possesses a distinct Chengdu feature and enjoys a long cultural history. Therefore, the design needs to creatively bring the profound Chengdu culture and extraordinary experience to the guests. The conventional lobby lounge is replaced with an open tea house to bring in local lifestyle. Red brick walls and old-fashioned buffet floor patterns in ADD are reminiscent of the alleys in old districts. The art installations draw inspiration from traditional calligraphy and the facial makeup in Sichuan Opera to enhance Chengdu’s city image.
Based on the philosophy of sustainability, durable composite stones are innovatively used in the design to help the hotel reduce the cost of maintenance while ensuring the attractive appearance. For lighting design, different lighting modes are available to realize smart operating throughout all service hours to conserve energy. In addition, the designer cleverly utilizes waste materials to create artworks that show a unique artistic effect.
