The project wins first place in the “Advanced Revitalization” category of the 16th Community Competition and marks the community’s first participation in a revitalization initiative. Launched in Citong Township, Yunlin County, the area is rich in first-grade agricultural produce—rice, garlic, peanuts, and vegetables—yet faces issues of aging demographics and youth migration due to limited infrastructure and resources. In response to abandoned land and the challenges of an aging population, residents collectively reimagine a weedy, unused site and transform it into a community park designed for healing, ecology, and shared learning.
The most touching sight in this project is not the lush greenery, but the image of people working together—tilling the soil and planting seeds. To accommodate the elderly and mobility-impaired, the community introduces raised garden beds, enabling both seniors in wheelchairs and children to participate in planting without bending over. No fences exist, no plots are claimed—each spinach plant and strawberry vine is a shared child of the community. Whoever is free comes to tend it; whoever arrives first harvests a handful to take home. This spirit of sharing quietly takes root, turning land into a gentle connector between people.
The project also retains original trees, integrates barrier-free pathways, and installs durable, recycled seating to ensure all ages can enjoy agricultural education in a playful and inclusive environment. These seemingly small design details breathe new life into the space, earning the community praise and recognition.
