Canterbury Court is a Life Plan Community located in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. As a professional facility, it aims to help elder residents foster social connectedness and provides opportunities for life-long learning, developing new interests, and guiding elder residents to adapt to a new way of life gradually. Facilities provide common areas and multi-residential units.
The design of the common area focuses on bringing natural views to the indoor space by using the full-height window, which also brings sufficient sunlight. The furniture here is mainly in dark wood color, with bright color cushions, which can not only increase the aesthetics but also help the visually impaired elderly people to separate and distinguish spaces. Beige and light blue can be used as the main colors, light colors make the space brighter and spacious, and form a huge contrast with other colors.
Moreover, the customized theme of the residential unit will be a highlight spot. One of the sample units was designed for a Cantonese couple. The overall style uses oriental elements to echo with user's cultural background and their preferences. The dark textured wood furniture with dark red velvet cushion conveys a sense of traditional features which will build a connection with the users. Since the tea culture is a necessary part of Cantonese life, the armchair near the window can be replaced with a coffee table set so that residents can take a tea break there. Besides, oriental plants will be a better option to make the space more homelike. In terms of the wall finish and flooring, beige is the main color of the walls, combined with durable LVT flooring.
Canterbury Court is a thoughtfully designed community that prioritizes the well-being of its elder residents. By integrating natural elements and culturally resonant designs, it creates an inviting atmosphere that fosters belonging and social connections. Emphasizing lifelong learning, Canterbury Court provides more than just a place to live; it’s a community where seniors can find companionship and enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle.
