The homeowners, both doctors, work in sterile environments with glaring lights. To relieve visual strain and reduce stress when they return home, the designer employs gray tones, faux finish, and soft lighting with diffusers. Metal elements and reflective materials, such as plating on the beams and mirrors in the foyer, were incorporated to visually enhance the sense of space and counteract any heaviness from the gray tones, adding a dynamic feel to the home. Large windows introduce abundant natural light and fresh air, completing this health-conscious and low energy consuming residence.

Through the materials, the generous luminosity and the colors used, this home was designed to give a serene and stable feeling to its inhabitants. As they are both eye doctors, the owners highly prioritize vision comfort. In this regard, the designer was attentive to use a dark color palette and dim lighting, to avoid features that could be aggressive for the eyes.
To create a natural indoor ambiance, the designer found inspiration in the Taroko Gorge, one of Taiwan’s many natural wonders. Coupling green elements and rock-colored walls to the design creates a harmonious mineral space. The interior displays different textures, like in the bedroom, where Turkish blue curtains add a mysterious touch to the room and contrast with the bed headboard. The floor’s herringbone parquet gives this room its own atmosphere by contrasting with the flooring used in the other rooms.
Seldom do we see spaces with such a focus on eye comfort. Designers achieved to create an interior using mainly tones of grey and dark accent, which doesn’t feel too obscure thanks to the lighting chosen and the amount of natural light entering through the windows. The whole space is focused on inhabitants’ well-being, especially eye health. After several trials and careful reflection, 3500K color temperature recessed lights have been selected, bringing sufficient lighting without being uncomfortable to the eyes. Having windows on three sides, this space features excellent natural lighting, enabling the use of darker tones without the space feeling dim. Hence, the space doesn’t use too much artificial lighting.
