Yohaku

Adjacent to the occupant’s office, this 76-square-meter spare apartment serves not only a guesthouse for short-term accommodations, but also as a private kitchen for hosting business meals or household celebrations. Probing concepts of the negative space, the planning aims on a natural and tranquil environment instead of prominent decorative design.

Previously configured with two bathrooms and three bedrooms, the space has been redesigned to foster gatherings, socializing, and relationship-building rather than merely serving as a habitation place. To enhance the accessibility and to optimize the movement flow, the layout has been designed to feature a bedroom and a spacious shared area with an open kitchen.

Constrained by the urban location setting of the site, the original view from the windows across the entrance was dominated by chaotic street scenes. The living area and the bedroom were therefore strategically swapped, allowing for better window vistas. Meanwhile, by switching the area compartments, guests are welcomed into a spacious cloakroom, facilitating a seamless transition into the open area.

A fusion of Japandi style infuses the space with warmth and minimalism vibes. By employing a palette of taupe wood and off-white tones, structural elements like beams and plumbing are effortlessly concealed, contributing to a refined aesthetic. In the core of the layout, a round table takes center stage, fostering conversation and connection rather than focusing on a television. While some guests engage in culinary activities in the kitchen, others can relax on low poufs by the massive windows, soaking in the energy of the cityscape.
