Candy is one of the most lovable snacks, and the sweetness is unforgettable. The creative concept of this project comes from the owners’ family names, to be more specifically, the Wuxing elements from names’ Chinese characters. Wuxing is a Chinese philosophy that contains five elements and believes that these elements can form the world around us. The designer extracts the fire, the earth and the water elements, interpreting them with symbols and codes in Alchemy, creating a hexagon with two triangles on the side, just like the shape of a candy. The candy-shaped house is meant to inspire a sweet family life and bring back childhood memories.

With the residents’ needs in mind, the structure is made of modified faired-face concrete, and is added in greenery and waterscape to balance the visual. Besides, considering the age of the owner, the designer sets a rather simple layout to keep it safe and convenient to move around. After entering the gate, a garden unfolds. With the sun shining on the spacious space, the residents can see nature and relax without leaving home.

A series of French windows is set on the first floor, allowing natural lights to light up the space. In the bathroom is a hot tub, right next to the waterscape with only a window in between, so that the scenery can be enjoyed while bathing. Half of the second-floor functions as the terrace where friends and family can drink tea and hang out. The open roof on the third floor offers a bigger place for activities such as barbecue or sports.

The designer not only aims to. build a safe haven for the family members, but to implement the idea of reducing waste. Besides being recyclable and weather resistant, the modified faired-face concrete ages well with the structure. From the concept development to the final product, the effort and attention to details show how much the designer cares for the residents, and hopes to build a space for their everyday, sweet, wonderful life.
