The Baodi Model Residence reinterprets contemporary Eastern living through the cultural character of the city and the everyday needs of a multi-generational family. Rather than reproducing traditional motifs, the design translates Eastern aesthetics into proportion, material, colour and spatial rhythm, allowing cultural memory to become part of modern domestic life. The three-level residence is organized as a sequence of distinct but connected settings: shared living and dining areas encourage family interaction, while the study, tea room and game room introduce quieter moments of reading, conversation and leisure; bedrooms for different generations provide greater privacy and respond to varied daily routines. The interior establishes a close relationship with the surrounding landscape, using changing sightlines, open transitions and layered spatial relationships to create continuous shifts between enclosure and openness. This approach reflects the project’s intention to combine place and aesthetics while integrating interior and landscape into one living experience. American black walnut, leather, marble, stone, copper and other tactile materials are applied with restraint, balancing warmth, refinement and contemporary clarity throughout the residence. The result is a home in which modern comfort and Eastern cultural identity coexist, offering residents a varied spatial experience that moves naturally between social connection, private retreat and everyday rituals.
