Leyeshan Township Rural Cultural Center

Leyeshan Township Rural Cultural Center is a rural transformation and revitalization project located in Ancheng Town, Jinan City, Shandong Province, China. With the pace of urbanization, villages are gradually abandoned. In order to improve this situation, the local government commissioned designers to transform and rebuild the village. Through various methods such as protection, integration, and renewal, the designer boldly introduced new elements on the basis of retaining the original natural environment and historical buildings. By creating two highly recognizable buildings, the comprehensive service building and the rural library, the architecture has brought this once-declined small village back into people’s sight, allowing the perfect blend of traditional country and modern fashion.

The rural cultural center includes a comprehensive service building and a rural art library. The rural art library integrates multiple functions such as learning, training, innovation, entrepreneurship, science education, and parent-child activities, aiming to provide local people with a space of diversified experiences. The comprehensive service building is mainly responsible for agricultural product exhibition and sales, tourist reception, function introduction, tourism shopping and other functions.

The two buildings were built on two abandoned homesteads, retaining the unique natural and beautiful stone wall texture of the village. With respect for the original village, the designer minimized artificial traces and retained the original texture and colors, to create a quiet and natural rural life that is desirable for all. It also encourages local villagers to rely on the scenic area to develop products such as planting and breeding, catering and accommodation, as well as special tourism. All of these will give the village a brand new life. This also in turn promotes the development of tourism in the entire village.
