4 Congratulations! As the winner of the 2023 TITAN Property Awards, what does it mean for you, your team, and your organization, to receive this distinction?

Winning awards is a process of self-validation in itself. It's just one aspect of career development, and I will continue to build upon creativity as the foundation for future growth.

5 Could you briefly explain about the winning project / title you entered into the 2023 TITAN Property Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

The homeowner, who works as a structural engineer, desired a design approach with clean lines to present an exclusive space within the residence. After several in-depth discussions and negotiations, it was unanimously decided to make the raw concrete texture after formwork removal the core of the design. The focus was on preserving the structural aesthetics while avoiding excessive ornamentation, following the concept of 'subtractive design' to extend the overall space. The goal was to achieve a minimalist concept, allowing the occupants to slow down their pace of life and break free from the hustle and bustle of fast-paced living. Within the residence, the team selected low-saturation color tones and soft lighting, complemented by warm wooden elements, to create an ambiance of slow living. This not only showcases a restrained lifestyle but also assists the homeowner in disconnecting from a fast-paced lifestyle, enabling a more enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. It's worth noting that through the use of exposed concrete cutting lines and opening sequences, the space not only feels familiar to the homeowner but also reflects a user's well-organized lifestyle, resonating with the space in harmony. This design places a strong emphasis on meeting the needs and preferences of the residents while prioritizing sustainability and environmental-friendliness. Firstly, the existing spatial structure and lighting conditions were retained to reduce resource wastage and the need for artificial lighting. Secondly, window treatments and reflective glass films were chosen to block outdoor heat, indirectly reducing the frequency of air conditioning use. Low-energy, high-power LED fixtures were installed to achieve energy efficiency and carbon reduction. Furthermore, to ensure the health and comfort of the occupants, the team selected eco-friendly building materials with low formaldehyde emissions, reducing the release of harmful substances and minimizing potential health risks for users. I wanted to challenge myself by testing my abilities in achieving a higher design density with a lower budget.

6 What were the biggest challenges you faced with this project?

It's necessary to gradually guide the homeowner's habits and achieve a design density above standard with a relatively lower budget.

7 How has winning this award developed your practice / career?

Winning awards is an attempt to showcase our design capabilities, gain trust, set our company's design style apart, leverage online exposure opportunities, and make potential clients take notice of us.
