5 Could you briefly explain about the winning project / title you entered into the 2022 TITAN Property Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

In this project, we take Hakka culture as the main line and follow the creation idea of absorbing the ancient forms for present-day use, combining inheritance with innovation, and integrating modern technology with traditional culture. By analyzing and reconstructing the Hakka culture’s elements, we delivered a comfortable modern Chinese style space reflecting the Hakka traditional architectural features meanwhile highlighting the essence of Hakka culture and its spirit of unity and hard work.

6 What were the biggest challenges you faced with this project?

As a project in a high-rise building, it is not easy to implement the two curved surfaces of the slope roof modeling for the atrium ceiling. GRG product's on-site molding, and division of the shape into multiple pieces for on-spot splicing and grinding were adopted to solve this problem.

8 For Property Developer, Architect and Designer, what makes a “good” property design?

It is quite common that customers sometimes hold personal opinions which may not positively affect the design implementation. In this case, I will stick to myself, with active communication, reasoning persuasion, and professionalism to gain the understanding, trust, and support of customers. In my opinion, to present better design effects, we should be confident and persistent in the areas of our expertise. It is important not to be afraid of complexity or disagreement, but to make full communication during the process.

9 Describe your property design style and its main characteristics.

I prefer a simple design. I love combining traditional Chinese elements into different forms and structures, having the overall number of colors controlled in a small range, and presenting thought-provoking spaces.

10 What made you / Why did you choose to become an artist / designer / real estate agent / property developer?

I have been fond of painting since I was a child. It calmed my mind and brought me into deep thinking about the shapes, proportions, colors, and such relations, which I found actually linked together during my later work. Stunning and unexpected effects always come out of serious thinking. Though the progress is complicated, the result turns out to be beautiful. Each moment I see the design finally born into reality, with its unique symbols of charm, I become unprecedentedly proud, steadfast, and enthusiastic about design.

11 What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

Modern simple style is my favorite. As a rather inclusive decoration style, it advocates simplicity, whether in terms of color matching or the choices of raw materials, creating fashionable and comfortable spaces with simple structures and perfect details.

12 What led you / your organization to become successful within the industry you are currently in?

To always have a firm belief and the consciousness of continuous learning; To constantly improve the professional skills, theoretical knowledge, and aesthetic standard; To observe and think more; Skills are no doubt important, but without good communicative ability, it is hard to get your design ideas well conveyed.

13 What makes your country specifically unique in the design industry?

The cultural heritage, cultural confidence, and the spirit of constant exploration and perseverance make this specialty. Competition and cooperation in the design industry also promote the survival of the fittest and the development and prosperity of this industry.

14 Do you think your country and its cultural heritage had an impact on your design process?

In southern China, the architectural forms and building materials are more influenced by the Lingnan culture and Hakka culture, which emphasize more on practicality, suitability and cost performance.

15 How has the country, you are based in, helped move your industry forward?

The overall sound and stable macro-control on the national system and economy, the relevant supporting policies of its development, and open guiding measures of promoting innovation and practice.

16 For Real Estate Agent, what does “real estate” mean to you?

Real estate development is a comprehensive and complex process that involves the purchase of raw land, rezoning, construction and renovation of buildings, and sale or lease of the finished product to end users. It helps improve urban planning, promote economic development, and level up the living environment. There are a variety of real estate professionals who work in the industry and help make it function. Whatever our roles are, the key to success is our professionalism and user-friendly orientation.

17 What are your top THREE (3) favorite things about the real estate industry?

Participating in the exchange and learning activities of this industry, visiting art exhibitions, and contributing to offering a better living environment for people.

18 Where do you see the evolution of the real estate industry in the next 5-10 years?

The boundaries among design shall disappear. In the coming years, boundaries among traditional graphic designers, UI designers, and technologists will blur or even vanish. With a focus on sustainability and regeneration, tools and support systems for design will face continuous upgrading and greater diversity.

19 What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the real estate industry?

Some domestic design websites; The WeChat official accounts that are within the top 100 ranking in their fields.

20 Who has inspired you in your life, and why?

I am always inspired and encouraged by the talented people in my industry. I like experiencing the living spaces, such as visiting and spending nights in some newly built star hotels and closely feeling the most updated creative ideas inside this industry.

21 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

I consider the secret to success is interest plus strong belief. We should constantly improve our aesthetic standards, keep pace with the times, and learn better communicative skills with different audiences. Design for me is to get your audience's recognization of your work through your design language. If this is not achieved, anything will be in vain.

22 Do you have anything else, which we haven’t covered, that you would like to include in this interview?

None.
