Hefei Jinmao · Puyi Yunhu

This project, located by Shushu Lake in Hefei, is inspired by the theme "Dreaming of Luzhou: A Journey Through Lakes and Mountains." It traces the lifestyle of the Eastern Jin Dynasty gentry, who engaged in scholarly conversations and self-cultivation amidst nature. This legacy is carried forward through the Song Dynasty, as exemplified by figures like Ouyang Xiu and Li Gonglin, whose work celebrates the joy of mountains and waters. We sought to capture this spirit in the design, creating a space that embodies a "secluded retreat within the bustling city."
The design adopts the concept of a "literary travelogue," a genre in classical Chinese literature, as the spatial narrative framework. The clubhouse unfolds like a three-dimensional, immersive travelogue scroll, offering a space that is more than a mere physical dwelling—it serves as a spiritual sanctuary. Amid the rise of Hefei’s tech hub, this space offers urban elites a place to slow down, find stillness, and engage in introspection.
In our design, we focus on the philosophy of "secluded retreat within the bustling city," where the space allows individuals to reconnect with the refined elegance and tranquil poise rooted in Chinese cultural essence. One of the highlights of the design is a custom coffee table made from green jade, symbolizing a spiritual anchor within the space. Its color, reminiscent of moonlight on the lake, provides a subtle yet powerful focal point.
For the dining area, we used lacquer art to evoke the ritualistic essence of Eastern dining. A high-temperature rock slab, adorned with layered lacquer, captures both the depth and warmth of traditional materials while offering a contemporary aesthetic. Additionally, the pendant lamps and wall lamps take inspiration from Huizhou’s culture, combining elements like shoji paper and onyx to create a soft, ethereal glow, bridging past and present through design.
The project emphasizes the innovative reuse of materials, ensuring sustainability while preserving cultural heritage.
