Emerald Residence

The five-story residence in Tainan’s Yongkang District was developed as a model home by a construction company. The design centers on the emotional interaction between people and space, transforming everyday needs into design language. The goal was not merely to create visual beauty but to integrate cultural context, natural resources, and functional planning into a residence that embodies both aesthetics and practicality. The project aspires to improve human living and activity environments, offering a comfortable yet layered home for an extended family.
The essence of the project lies in the harmonious interplay of light, materials, and nature. On the second floor, expansive floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a suspended tree courtyard, where greenery flows into daily life, allowing nature to become the most eloquent companion to the interior. The TV wall, clad in silver crystal stone, reveals crystalline textures that shift with light, resembling ink-wash landscapes and infusing the modern setting with poetic atmosphere. Stone’s solidity and wood’s warmth are juxtaposed to achieve a balance between cool and warm, while the spatial language is defined by simple lines that project quiet restraint.
Beyond aesthetics, sustainability principles permeate the design. Natural daylight and ventilation are maximized: the large windows on the second floor reduce reliance on daytime lighting, while lighter materials in the rear areas of the first floor enhance brightness. The entire residence is equipped with a total heat exchange system to improve airflow and reduce pollutants, and the integration of planting systems lowers solar heat gain, creating year-round comfort indoors.
