Eastern Market Metro Park

Moya Design Partners designed the architecture of the Eastern Market Metro Park, a park surrounding one of the few historical market buildings in DC. This Park was envisioned to become a town square for historical Capitol Hill, serving as a safe area for its residents.

MOYA designed a state-of-the-art playground with a splash pad, shade structures, improved tree canopy, rain gardens, storm water management, and landscape improvements along the road. MOYA led meetings between the Design-Build Team; federal, District, and local agencies. These meetings were led with ANC 6b and Eastern Market Metro Park Advisory Team to ensure that the community had a voice in how to turn the park into a “Town Square”. Eastern Market Metro Park had the challenge of leading a collaborative process involving not only the Capitol Hill Community, but also multiple review agencies. These agencies included the NPS, CFA, HPRB, DDOT, and WMATA. Working with these agencies allowed for the project of the park to achieve complex approval of ownership and jurisdiction.

The design team used the ENVISION Program from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. This program allowed for the features such as shade structures, improved bioretention, rain gardens, and stormwater management to sustainable design development.
