Athens, recognized as Europe's hottest capital, is confronted with significant challenges stemming from extreme weather conditions, deteriorating air quality, and urban congestion, all of which jeopardize the quality of life for its residents. In light of these pressing issues, there is an immediate need for Athens to cultivate a more livable and sustainable urban environment through a comprehensive green transformation. This necessity has given rise to SymbioAthens, an innovative architectural complex that embodies eco-symbiosis, cultural heritage, and contemporary urban development. The project seeks to redefine the relationship between the city and nature by seamlessly integrating natural elements with architectural features, thereby creating a modern ecological space that caters to urban residents, businesses, creators, eco-advocates, culture enthusiasts, as well as tourists and researchers.

The design of SymbioAthens draws inspiration from both the natural landscape and historical context of Athens while also considering the cyclical patterns of ecosystems and the requirements of living in a post-pandemic world. The architectural form reflects ancient Greek columnar styles and traditional public squares, artfully combined with a modern design vocabulary that imparts both historical significance and a futuristic vision. The colour palette is derived from natural hues complemented by green accents, resulting in a smooth visual transition that fosters a warm and inviting environment for living and working.

Regarding functional zoning, SymbioAthens adheres to principles of vertical layering, the separation of movement and static zones, and ecological integration. It features designated commercial and retail spaces, a central courtyard, public green areas, office environments, residential units, as well as a rooftop farm and sustainable facilities to accommodate the diverse needs of various community groups. Furthermore, SymbioAthens is dedicated to exploring sustainable and intelligent urban development solutions amid the challenges of global climate change and increasing urbanization. The project emphasizes intelligent safety management and resilience against earthquakes and wind hazards to ensure the building's safety and stability, while the use of environmentally friendly materials enhances both sustainability and ecological performance.
