In the context of rapid modernization and the swift advancement of future technologies, challenges such as inefficient space utilization, ageing facilities, limited land resources, inflexible office models, and substantial environmental impacts are increasingly significant. The conceptual renovation project, DisruptSpace, seeks to tackle the issues associated with urban regeneration and sustainable development in Shenzhen through the principles of modular design and vertical expansion. Based on the International Trade Centre building, this initiative explores innovative pathways for transforming traditional office environments by incorporating flexible spatial configurations and green low-carbon technologies.
The exterior design of DisruptSpace is characterized by a modern and minimalist aesthetic, emphasizing a neutral colour palette while skillfully integrating the natural hues of materials to cultivate a warm and inviting atmosphere. Structurally, the project employs an innovative combination of core and truss systems to ensure the building's stability and safety. The modular dislocation design preserves the architectural heritage of this urban landmark while facilitating functional expansion and upgrades. The building units are designed to be independently load-bearing while remaining adaptable and easily disassembled, thereby minimizing construction waste. Furthermore, integrating intelligent monitoring and alert systems enhances the facility's overall safety.
DisruptSpace effectively harmonizes office, leisure, and commercial functionalities to form a forward-thinking and multifaceted complex. Open communal areas and private office spaces complement one another, creating an efficient and comfortable working environment for employees. Additionally, leisure amenities such as a rooftop garden and a communal tea room provide opportunities for relaxation and engagement with nature after demanding workdays. The building incorporates photovoltaic power generation, a rainwater collection system, and an advanced temperature and humidity control system, significantly diminishing dependence on conventional energy sources and exemplifying a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and innovative development.
