St Michel is a Japanese-style hot spring resort villa designed to create a sense of being in a forest. Natural wooden elements and materials are used throughout the units, along with Japanese lattice craftsmanship and well-designed furniture, to create a cozy traditional Japanese-style living space. The ambiance of a Japanese hot spring hotel is recreated through the incorporation of various design ideas and materials.
The main living room area features a sloping-roof ceiling to recreate the ambiance of a Japanese countryside cottage. The rest of the area is decorated with minimalist wooden tones and pure white walls, highlighting an elegant Japanese aesthetic. A set of projection screen cabinets is designed in the main living room, allowing homeowners to enjoy cinema equipment anywhere in the house. The tea room showcases classic Japanese charm with a sloping-roof ceiling, tatami mats, and embedded seating.
The master bedroom is divided into two areas: a loft and study, and a bedroom. Japanese sliding doors and half-height glass partitions are incorporated to maintain transparency and privacy. The bedroom area is decorated with Japanese tray decorations themed "Bamboo Grove and Mountains," creating a cozy atmosphere. The ceiling incorporates the design concept of tatami mats, adding different levels and a sense of fun to the space.
In this project, the designer aims to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a Japanese hot spring hotel for relaxation. Japanese elements such as tray craftsmanship, sloping ceilings, sliding doors, and tatami mats are used to embody the traditional Japanese ambiance. The combination of various design ideas and materials transforms the living space into a relaxing haven with a vacation-like atmosphere. This design challenge is particularly intriguing given the rapidly modernizing and bustling nature of Hong Kong.
