The project is located in Urumqi, Xinjiang, often abbreviated as "Xin". Historically known as the Western Regions, Xinjiang has always been an integral part of China's western territory. The region conjures images of snowy mountains and glaciers, lush grasslands, the Gobi Desert, and the iconic ancient Silk Road. Urumqi serves as a key city on the New Northern Route of the ancient Silk Road and acts as a hub for economic and cultural exchanges between the East and West. It is a melting pot of Western and Chinese cultures, exhibiting multicultural characteristics. Defined by its openness, warmth, generosity, and progressiveness, Urumqi is the most dynamic city in Central Asia.
We have extracted the natural elements of Xinjiang and the cultural allure of the Silk Road, seamlessly integrating both into our space design. The dominant colors are desert yellow, prairie green, and Gobi brown. Large expanses of the space feature shades of beige, light gray, and warm earth tones, evoking a sense of purity and calm. Green serves as a complementary color, accompanied by plants, to infuse a natural ambiance into the interior. This allows visitors to fully experience the passion and imagination inspired by both the ancient and modern Silk Roads.
Starting with the foyer, a wide array of botanical landscaping techniques has been employed throughout the space to create numerous naturalistic scenes within the interior. These landscapes serve to connect different areas, offering visitors a pleasing sensory experience and making them feel as if they are immersed in nature.
The negotiation area resembles a vast expanse. We employed a differentiated design approach to instill a sense of hierarchy and spatial flow throughout the open space. By strategically misaligning geometric components, the long table in the center generates a patchwork of spatial effects, enhancing both the visual appeal and interest of the area. Meanwhile, books related to the Silk Road displayed on the bookshelf seem to recount legendary tales.
The children's area serves as a reading space filled with innocence and youthful delight. The incorporation of the Totoro cartoon character adds an extra layer of childlike whimsy.
