Industrial Heritage and Modern Art Experience Museum is located in Changsha, China. The designer was inspired by the unique local abandoned factories and tried to explore a regeneration path that combines industrial heritage and modernism to create a new city coordinate of immersive experience. By combining the texture and materials of industrial heritage and incorporating old factory steel plates, machine tools and other elements, it presents a great sense of nostalgia in the local place. Through the spatial language of multiple geometric lines, the museum presents the genes of contemporary design in terms of its functions and structures.
It is worth mentioning that the designer used carbon fiber composite material in all the metal products of this project. The material is reinforced but with ultra-light weight that is difficult to be achieved by some other traditional materials. It is easy to assemble, move and transport, and can be used in various environments. Visually, it shows a natural and light beauty. The aluminum mesh and plates in the project are all reprocessed from industrial waste materials and are presented in a mesh form, which forms a strong contrast with the green plants, animals and other elements in the space, giving it a strong visual impact. The designer practices the concept of sustainable development in the selection of design materials, and these ingenious design strategies almost perfectly achieve the integration between modern art and industrial heritage.
