Container dwellings

The client expects to build a small affordable house for private use in a natural rural environment. In consideration of the tree-lined environment around the house and the client’s request, we attempt to make the environment and the building structure as one and create an ideal dwelling through the simplest materials and combinations despite the limited conditions. As a part of the ultimate design, a small courtyard enclosed by containers is infused the gardening concept, the raw stones and woods sourced around the courtyard are used as footing and edge materials, which fulfills the functional needs and makes a trade-off between cost control and art effect. The north-south direction shields it against the cold wind from the north. The walls and windows are properly designed to control the interior temperature. Landscaping, shelter, viewing and reception spaces are intentionally added. The changing light, temperature, breeze and other natural elements mirror the rotation of four seasons. In the dining room, the parlor and the lounge, each space features close, mid-range and long views that are composed the interior, corridor and courtyard, conferring a poetic meaning to life.
