Courtyard of Modern Life

The design of public area integrated with the concept of “three-entry courtyard” of Chinese traditional buildings, which satisfied the daily life needs of building through the interior space, bringing in the sense of space dimension and ritual of home. The area from front door to the entryway was called “first entry”, which was also the first circular flow moving line based on daily living needs and where the shoe cabinet and entryway were.

To the right one will see the storeroom, which comes with a walk-in sliding closet for baby stroller or bike, etc. Heading straight from the entryway, one will enter the kitchen, which is an area for placing products purchased.

Entering the kitchen from entryway, you would see the huge cooking area. This was what we called “second entry” and the second circular flow. The “third entry” could be found in the living room and dining room.

The house owners valued the rituals of life and interactions with kids, loving the lightness and refreshment brought by Zen. Therefore, we designed and customized the cabinets, laminates and furniture in the public area by ourselves. In addition to minimizing the existence of interior finish, we also decorated the cabinets with ingenuity, such as low cabinet that exposes the covers of magazines and children’s books upright, laminates at the corner of kitchen island for kids to read and play with toys, thereby fully interacting with each other at the dining room and kitchen.

The 3-meter long dining table made of white oak with the cabinet was the center of the living room, which could accommodate 10 people. It was a place for family interaction, and also an area for children to read and do homework when they grow up.

The design broke the impression of a standard living room and left plenty of empty space for flexible future living needs. TRX equipment and unrestricted space allowed growing children to enjoy the right to play at home.
