Situated in a newly-built residential building in downtown Tainan, It despite its small space (44 square meters), is configured into a layout of two separate bedrooms, a multi-function space and lots of storage.
Wooden shoe cabinetry, a full-length mirror and grayish-black flooring make up the dark-toned foyer, whose stable vibe serves as a transition between the indoor and outdoor. The multi-function common area combines the simple kitchen and the living room to integrate the flow in a clever way and shorten the main flow. The hallway is also incorporated into the common area to make for more room in the limited space. The multi-function space on one side has an elevated floor and a folding door on a two-way rail to form an area that can be opened or closed to be adaptable to different uses. The elevated floor defines the separate section and its domain, while the folding door greatly enhances the section’s connection with the living room, so that the small residence can have sufficient flexible space when needs arise, such as a visit, a gathering or a dinner of lots of people.
The rail design of a folding door or sliding door is widely used in the residence, thereby effectively reducing wasted space. Created between the guest bathroom and the second bedroom is another space, with a common cleaning area formed by moving the bathroom vanity further outside. The ingenious, versatile space greatly increases spatial flexibility to encompass full living functionality for a compact, complete residence.
With unique design thinking, the small-scale space is transformed in a precise, economical way, magically creating an expansive home steeped in sensations of the five senses.
