GREENTOWN PHOENIX HARMONY

Fenghua is the hometown of Jiang’s Family, and our project is located at the former site of Fenghua High School. Having a history of more than 100 years, the school spirit and cultural heritage of Fenghua High School have influenced the destiny of our country along with the outstanding talents it cultivates. To some extent, Fenghua High School is the root of Ningbo's education. Fenghua has a fine tradition to highlight how to earn a living and meanwhile make academic progress, not only revering culture and education but also paying close attention to social development and national affairs. Jiang’s Family Precepts that are the most typical representative of this tradition work in concert with the School Motto of Fenghua High School.

We choose “Insight for Light” as the design motif for the whole building. Using the architectural design methods of Carlo Scarpa for a good balance between natural light and indoor lighting, we reflect the theme through well-organized architectural forms and details. By making concise use of materials, we manage to embody the “Poetic Spirit” of the entire space.

Interior decoration takes local features and architectural style into consideration. Keynoting the space with retro items, we map out these keywords, including integration, comfort, the Republic of China, and culture, and then construct the ideal residence for Orientals in a contemporary way. Moreover, a large area of glass-based daylighting not only closes the sensory distance between indoor and outdoor but also triggers the collision between ancient traditions and modern innovations to generate different landscapes.

We create devices based on “home letters” and “ancient books”, and refine their overall forms according to the space structure – sinking water, imaginary lights themed on “drops of water outwear the stone” and “drops of ink form characters”, and abstraction of water curtain. To turn these keywords, such as space integration, cultural attribute, and style of the Republic of China, into reality, we mainly select these delicate materials, including northeast China ashes, retro dark bronze, and leathers as the materials for interior decoration.
