Community Center of Fragrant Lake

Fragrant Lake is a natural community located on the northwestern outskirts of Wuhan metropolis, a major metropolis in Central China, with wildness and lakes as the primary natural living environment. The design makes it both utilitarian and emotional recognition, as well as a public place for the area and a cultural spirit landmark in the neighbourhood. Inspired by the expansive view of the front waterfront and the curving and flexible coastline, the design positions the building to face west and north, then east and north again, providing direction to the neighbourhood. The building's form dominates the whole space, with a grand continuous soft-slope roof that corresponds with the architectural language of the related to context. Simultaneously, the huge roof is coupled with the usage function, and it is positioned in the roof theatre, observation box, and roof skylight, allowing people to be near to nature. The space design emphasises key nodes such as book towers and stepped theatres, emphasising spirituality and experience, such that the interior space is packed and comfortable in terms of scale and function. The use of champagne-colored metal roof, ultra-white glass curtain wall with vast area hidden frame, and plain fair-faced concrete.
