Designer extracts the cultural elements of ancient Nanjing and combines them with the charm of nature, using passionate and warm colors to break the traditional impressions people have of ancient Nanjing culture. Velvet flower is a representative traditional handicraft with local characteristics in Nanjing. Until now, they are handmade because their special expression technique cannot be produced by machines. During the ancient periods, velvet flowers were in full bloom. In terms of shape, they are comparable to real flowers and never fail; in terms of symbolic meaning, they harmonize with "Splendor", which has the meaning of good luck and blessing.
Nowadays, Craftsmen use velvet flowers to simulate the luster of feathers with its velvety texture, which can also show the gradation of colors. Based on this unique feature, designer extracts the gradient color of velvet flowers and integrates the gradient orange color into the space, which injects vitality into the space while signifying good fortune and prosperity.
One of Nanjing's distinctive cultural items refers to Nanjing cloud brocade. The Chinese character "Xuan" not only refers to the color, but also means thickness and depth, as well subtleness and delicacy, which are all appropriate words to describe cloud brocade.
Flow, an interesting medium, tranquil while static and abundant while moving, extending endless beauty in changes. The art installation light extracts a wisp of golden cloud brocade elements and consists of a cylinder of gradient-colored glass tubes of varying lengths. Along with materials of other color and luster, which make the space a hospitable, welcoming, inclusive and multifaceted place.
Also extracting element of cloud brocade to create a circular art wall painting made of strips of dyed-orange bamboo. In order to make the warm light softer, the designer chose burgundy glass shade, the gentle and ambiguous light reflected on the bronze metal finish, bursting out with an orange-red glow, echoing the main color of space.
